Shiina Ringo throws herself from pure rock to jazz and back again at the flick of a switch and this live vault is “Papaya Mango” from her jazz side. It’s such a cute showy song, one to kick your legs too with big feathers on!

Live Vault – Yasunori Mitsuda
PLAY! Concert is one of a couple of touring video game orchestral performance troupes and their rendition of Yasunori Mitsuda’s Chrono Cross/Trigger melodies are fantastic. Sit back and be sublimed!
Live Vault: Yae
I have been searching for ages for a full decent live song on youtube of Yae. She’s so good live as her live CD shows and finally I tracked down this beautiful rendition of “Koi No Hana” which is different version compared the album one and I quite possibly prefer this rendition. Heaven! Yae had a new single out in April and I didn’t even know but it appears to be Japanese digital only so I’ll have to track it down somehow!
Live Vault: Faun
HPM love Faun and we’ll be reviewing their latest live DVD release very soon however until then this weeks live vault see’s them perform the fantastic “Pungara” with a fantastic set for what looks like a TV show.
Live Vault – Nina Nastasia
Nina Nastasia is this weeks live vault with new song “Cry, Cry Baby” which is from her forthcoming album “Outlaster” due for release 7th June! It sounds like a more bluesy Nina is on the horizon by this beautiful performance.
HPM Goes to See… Tori Amos
Apologies for a few days of hushness but that’ll soon be sorted
However after being devasted to not get to see Utada earlier this year, I’ve grabbed tickets to see Tori Amos on 18/07/10 in London. We’ll have a nice juicy review afterwards but here’s a reminder of Tori’s live prowess!
Live Vault – Carina Round
While Carina posts some helerious snippet videos of the making of her new album on her facebook profile, I’d like everyone to see Carina seriously rock out with “Ready to Confess” from her launch gig from her last full length album “Slow Motion Addict” which has been one of my favourite discoveries of 2010 to date.
Live Vault – The Go Team
I’ve often wondered how The Go Team would sound like but judging by this excellent rendition of “Junior Kickstart” is absolutely rocking. Three guitars and two drummers – yum!
Live Vault – Loreena McKennitt
This weeks Live Vault comes from Loreena McKennitt’s absolutely fabulous “Live from the Alhambra” DVD which you can also get in CD format as I did, both in a 3 disc edition! The song is “The Old Ways” and its a timeless piece.
Imogen Heap Covers Tori Amos
Imogen has performed a unique and original interpretation of Tori Amos’ “Cornflake Girl”. Watch the cover here. It’s nice to hear the song completely reworked and almost unrecognisable. You can’t call her a copy cat!
Live Vault – Tegan and Sara
I’d not heard a single song from these lovely identical twins before but one listen of this fantastic acoustic version of “The Con” had me absolutely hooked, so much so I had to listen to it again several times in a row straight away! Some more albums pop onto my wishlist…
Live Vault – Brendan Perry (New Songs From Ark)
Well I’ve had a listen to the whole bootleg recording (aren’t I naughty) and Brendan continues to perform like an absolute dream. Brendan has such a weight to whatever he puts out, its immediately credable and drilled to such a point, its like a live album every time. The new songs, to be featured on Ark are “This Boy“, which is beautifully haunting, the fluid promise of hope in motion “Utopia“, the sublime “Winter Sun“, the rocking “The Golden Rule” and the utterly beautiful “Dream Letter“.
I have also heard “Eros” which is very Peter Ulrich sounding and “Love on the Vine” which was much more a band effort and has Brendan’s vocal chords very much in demand! Ark is definately gearing up for album of the year already!
Live Vault – Nina Nastasia
Whilst thoroughly rediscovering “Run to Ruin” I found this beautiful live performance of one of my favourite Nina Nastasia songs “This is What It Is” but just guitar and vocal. A lovely stripped down performance.
Live Vault – Chris Huelsbeck
The man who could with the C64, this weeks like vault comes from Chris Huelsbeck and the arrangement of his R-Types theme from a camcorder recording of Symphonic Shades in 2008. The sound is pretty good and the atmosphere and epic grand scale is certainly not lost.
Charlotte Martin: Free Song & Video
The ever wonderful Charlotte Martin looks set to return with a brand spanking new album this year after being quite unwell the last few months. We wish her a speedy recovery but she’s released “Tremble”, a new song, free as an acoustic version for download from her bandcamp website. There’s also this beautiful rehersal video of it. It’s great to have her back!
Live Vault – Julie Ritter
This weeks Live Vault is from ex-Mary’s Danish front lady Julie Ritter performing my favourite song from her debut solo album “Songs of Love and Empire” and its called “As You Please“. It’s hard to find stuff of Julie’s, so this is nice to have.
Live Vault – Venus Hum
Venus Hum are a funky little band and this is acoustic set of “Surgery In The Sky” which is nice to hear with stripped back electronics.
Sarah Slean: Solo Concert Stream
Living in the UK, I’ve not had the chance to see Sarah Slean live however a streamable live solo concert is one of the next best things. Listen to some beautiful piano and vocal renditions of some of Sarah’s best new songs by popping over here. Here starts a live DVD campaign!
Live Vault – Emmy Rossum
Singing a piano vocal version of what was her debut single “Slow Me Down“, its Emmy Rossum. I really like this version. Still one of the most surprisingly beautiful albums of the last few years is Inside Out.
Live Vault – Iona
Iona, led by the sweetest silky vocals of Joanne Hogg (Xenogears) are this weeks Live Vault with a beautiful performance of Chi-Rho. You can watch it here. I know that it is Christian music however I believe Iona are one of the few bands that actually transcend that genre and the music means more than just a religious context.
