imogenheapAnd so to August 2009 where we had a four way fight for the top this month, won by Imogen Heap whereby more people actually viewed the tracklisting after the whole album was posted as a streaming audio on the website and people didn’t actually listen to the album itself! However, HPM has not reviewed Ellipse (although I personally love it already) because I’ve ordered the two disc edition and want to hold on until it comes through.

Behind it was all go for OverClocked Remix, Module and Brendan Perry.

Video Vault – Imogen Heap – “Canvas” Music Video

Well we all loved First Train Home but Canvas is something else. Watch the gorgeous music video and the stunning ambient piece here. Then go and pre-order this masterpiece – no – go – NOW! Currently looking like HPM’s favourite release of 2009 and that’s a seal of approval!

overclockedremixWell was there really any doubt? OverClocked Remix absolutely smashed the charts with almost more views on OCR posts than the rest of the site put together! Only Imogen Heap’s track listing for her latest album Ellipse was able to pull in big numbers too. Interesting we had almost exactly the same number of visitors as June (14 difference) and it was our third most viewed month of the sites history. We did break one new record, our first day with more than 200 hits! August should be a great month too. Let’s enjoy the summer!

Imogen Heap – Ellipse Album Video Trailer

Quite possibly in one minute, an album has just placed itself in the album of the year category already! Here’s a video trailer for Imogen Heap’s new album Ellipse. Let the freak outs begin….. now!

Most Viewed – June 09

June missed being our most busiest month by just 21 hits so March 09 still holds the crown of busiest month – however for the first time ever one artist completely outrun everyone else by such a margin, their top post (our most viewed post this month) had more hits than the second, third and fourth busiest posts combined! Well done the Imogen Heap – everyone’s gone mad over the tracklist for Ellipse and we’ll be buying the album on release day so expect a sharp review on the day (provided its in shops – we couldn’t get a copy for Speak For Yourself in a store and had to buy online and wait). Patrick Wolf, Dead Can Dance & Vienna Teng’s album reviews all followed behind. Here’s the top 10 artists followed by the only two game reviews on site (we will be doing a top 5 game hits too). Congrats to Lisa Germano for making a new entry and Tori Amos, number 1 last month, dropped straight back out the charts again! June should be a busy month with lots of reviews not just here, but over on new site I Love Disaster Movies, which is another personal indulgence to another hobby of mine! Enjoy the summer!

Live Vault – Imogen Heap

Back in 1998 when Imogen Heap was just stepping into the world of music with iMegaphone, I had found my new favourite artist and saved up to buy one of my first ever CD’s. “iMegaphone” has such a special place, I was delighted when Immi played not so long ago a re-release concert for the album. This is “Sweet Religion” my favourite from the album. Enjoy!

02. Wait It Out
03. Earth
04. Little Bird

You can hear the creative flow of the album via Immi’s fantastic iBlog’s on her YouTube page. This is turning out to be a great year for music! Ellipse is due to be released in August

Video Vault – Imogen Heap

While we all wait for her follow up to Speak For Yourself, take a trip back to a little known music video for Imogen Heap & GMT’s “Meantime” which is a fantastic song that was done during the iMegaphone days.

Audiosurf – Imogen Heap

A new year, a new feature! Audiosuf is a fantastic game from Ascaron and basically takes your cd collection and turns it into an unlimited game. You race around a song collection bricks in sequences to amass points. Your end score goes onto an online leader board for each song and there you have it!

Our first song is Imogen Heap’s Speeding Cars and the video can be found here on our sister site Higher Plain Games. We apologise for the poor sound quality and this will be sorted for later editions.

Imogen Heap – “Shine” EP Review

Well with all the anticipation of Imogen’s 3rd solo album starting to snowball up we take time to review one of Immi’s first singles “Shine” taken from iMegaphone.

Shocking though it may be today, there’s four tracks and three are non album ones! “Shine” is a fabulous alternative rock/noise piece with weird heart beating percussion, reversed keyboard samples and Imogen’s soaring vocals really giving it some welly! It was arguably the most single-esque track on the album and deserves any acclaim it has garnered.

However “Airplane” is actually possibly the most commercial and instantly catchy song from the iMegaphone era and it surprises me it didn’t make the album. Its breezy chorus was the first real showing of the now staple ad libbing scat that Heap’s become known for making a genre all of her own. The music itself a colourful blend of dark bass and fluffy synths and piano.

That’s then followed up by the epic “Wireless” which probably just eeks out “Miel” (taken from the “Getting Scared” single) for the winning epic song. “Wireless” comes in at 8 minutes of looped drums, vocal snippets and keyboard samples. It gradually evolves from something hypnotic into something quiet harrowingly cut-throat in the middle segment where all the noise is turned to distorted jabs. However all is restored again after for the ending.

Finally “Leave Me Here to Love” is a personal all time fav from Imogen Heap. It’s just her and the piano however her voice has been fused with an electric guitar which I assume is match the sharp tongue as she dishes out all kinds of fantastical lyrics in this angst ridden song of hate and bile. A work of art.

I wish people would still release b-sides like these. Imogen and a few other artists still do thankfully. These gems are worth more than a lot of albums I’ve bought and any fan would be wise to start collecting this gem now.

Imogen Heap – Album Update

Imogen discusses more of her album and lets us listen to samples of upcoming songs including songs called Little Bird and Swoon. Imogen’s iBlogs are always fun and informative and its great to have someone show an insight into how they make an album. Watch it here

Imogen Heap: iBlog

Imogen Heap while waiting to go for album 3 (or 4 if you include Frou Frou) has a really random video blog detailing her week in action from the building of her recording studio, what she did during the week and just general babbling, all of which are very entertaining and shows her warm personality and good humour in the wake of disaster. It appears she’s also in talks over doing another song for the next Narnia film as well which would be fantastic as “Can’t Take It In” is a great song. Keep up to date by going here ans subscribing!
