After finding out that vocoders were a thing that could work with classical chamber music on her last album ‘Citizen of Glass’, Agnes Obel has returned with more of the same for her new single. The track is called ‘Island of Doom’ and uses voice warping vocoders to create background choral arrangements and chorus whisps. The piano itself is also heavily distorted.
The music video is beautiful too as Agnes, her piano and her surroundings are all cloudy neon pixels – no doubt a nod to the production. It is a delicate and careful song and taken from Agnes Obel’s forthcoming album ‘Mytopia’. It is due for release on the 21st February 2020 and I’ll be picking it up on release day for review.
