Kicking off the Meeting Musicians in March Month is Kaktus Einarsson. Usually the frontman for Icelandic post-punk band Fufanu, Kaktus has branched out on his own to produce a solo album with support from electronica artist Null & Void. The year years of Kaktus Einarsson are absolutely fascinating. He first played in an experimental electronic group called Ghostigital at the age of ten before moving onto Fufanu. These two experiences means that his solo music is a blend of both contemporary classical and pop-rock. The album has themes of nature and environmental challenges.
Leaning into the experimental side of things, Kaktus sent the album to prepared piano composer Thibault Gomez. Here they stripped off the synths and keyboards and replaced them with all the different noises, creaks, hammers and groans of a grand piano – culminating in a strange drum machine. It makes the whole album feel quite foreboding and lead single and title track ‘Kick The Ladder’ showcases this beautifully. The single is out now and the album is available to preorder below. It releases on the 21st of May via One Little Independent.
