Introducing… Throwing Snow

Throwing traditional instruments into electronica bangers

Throwing Snow has been producing electronic music for years but I’ve only recently come across his music via his new single ‘Lithics’. Usually, Throwing Snow, can be found in the Caribou range of quirky and catchy electronica but ‘Lithics’ takes a totally different approach. Here, most of the sounds are made from traditional musical instruments. The kick drum is an Irish Bodhran. The Persian Daf frame drum is used too. The main melodic instrument is the Indian Esraj. When combined with buzzing synths, the whole sound feels like a razor symphony.

I adore this piece and have since been adding loads of Throwing Snow’s back catalogue to my Bandcamp wishlist to buy at a later date. ‘Lithics’ is the lead track ahead of a new album announcement according to Houndtooth’s newsletter so stay tuned. Enjoy the stunning track below. I can’t wait to here what other interesting instruments are included in the full album release!
