Introducing… Glasser

When a majestic jellyfish and an atmospheric chamber pop symphony collide.

Atmospheric, otherworldly and majestic are the three words I’d use to describe Glasser’s new single “New Scars”. It is the first single since Glasser released her previous release “Sextape” over three years ago. The track is a heady mix of tsunami building strings that teeter on synthetic sounds and piano pitter-patters that mask Glasser’s own voice until it blossoms into its own in the second half. The track feels feminine, confident, assured and emotive as the feelings and sounds bubble up to their potent conclusion.

Pairing the music perfectly is a stunning music video featuring a jellyfish! Marine biologist David Gruber shot footage is so intriguing. Gruber and roboticist Robert Wood teamed up to create a robot with squishy fingers that could examine jellyfish without harming them and the music video follows an encounter. Glasser (Cameron Mesirow) said she found the footage empathetic but curious because the jellyfish seems to enjoy the squishy fingered hug more than you’d expect. The species has a regal and effortlessly majestic quality and it pairs perfectly with the music.

“New Scars” is out now and you can enjoy the music video below. For more info on future updates and curious music oddities, follow Glasser on Twitter.
