Chrono Cross ~Scar of Time~ Music Box Unbox and Demo

A quick look at the music box.

Chrono Cross ~Scar of Time~ is one of the most iconic themes in video game music. Yasunori Mitsuda created an anthemic Celtic-infused rousing theme song which Square Enix has now rearranged into a music box. It’s the first Square Enix music box I’ve purchased and it is a rich, almost royal blue plastic music box with a simple twister underneath. When it is wound up fully, the box replays the main two-bar riff from the track’s crescendo. It is beautiful and when the music box is placed on a surface, the notes sound much fuller and resonate strongly. As the music box winds down, it stops suddenly rather than running out of steam. I have noticed that not every note plays each loop around though.

I’ve recorded a short unboxing and about 80 seconds of the music box in action. It is a nice nostalgic music box, if not a bit too short on the music loop. With a music box of To Zanarkand available for pre-order, I think I’ll double dip and pick up that one too.
