cinematic music cross over electronic instrumental Introducing... Modern Jazz piano synth

Introducing… Kessoncoda

A cinematic melting pot of jazz crossover, cinematic synths and beautiful piano melodies.

When I think of modern crossover jazz I think of Gondwana Records and Kessoncoda is their latest signing. Kessoncoda is a duo from West London. Tom on drums, Fillip on keys. You’d never think it’s just two musicians creating the complex melodies and beats yet on their single ‘Greyscale’ they take us on an epic journey that showcases their cinematic sound. The track opens with a distant piano plinking away in a large empty space before the drums and synths join for a spiralling and dramatic piece. Kessoncoda is closer to bands like Mammal Hands than Svaneborg Kaydyb as they embrace a fuller band sound despite it being just Tom and Fillip playing.

‘Greyscale’ is taken from Kessoncoda’s forthcoming debut album ‘Outerstate’ which is due for release on 12th July. The album will be a firm jazz crossover with elements of electronic, rock and cinematic music blending in to make a cohesive sound. Kessoncoda says the album has an element of post-Covid unease about it too. “This feeling of being within a group of friends, and you’re chatting, and you’re physically there but mentally you’re not at all – you’re somewhere else, a really weird state of being.”

Enjoy the sublime ‘Greyscale’ music video below, this single along with the new single ‘Hammers’ are both out now. To find out more about Kessoncoda, including how to pre-order the album and their UK tour dates in October, visit their website.
