Brussels-based duo Glass Museum have been busy exploring a different approach to their music since the superb ‘Reflet‘ three years ago. Keyboardist Antonie and drummer Martin invited producer Arthur Hnatek to create a repetitive electronic loop for them, which would become the foundation for their new composition. This formed the base for ‘Gate 1’, a sonic departure lounge that Glass Museum will depart from to explore abandoned districts of a fictional city, which would include a canal and port. I love a high-concept approach to music, and I’m excited to hear more.
If you are unfamiliar with Glass Museum, the duo combines cinematic rhythms and keyboards that borrow from jazz, techno, neoclassical, and the synth world. They are more electronic than many other duos or trios in the modern jazz hybrid space, often being quite difficult to classify. If I’m looking for emotionally charged, cinematic and vast soundscapes with flow – Glass Museum is a go-to band.
Enjoy the quite brutalist and maximum business music video, which combines images of business districts and other clean and mechanical structures to wax and wane to the track’s rhythm. The video was created by Supertchip and reminds me of a shorter looped version of a Ron Frickie film. Hopefully, this all means a new album is on the way. No details have been announced yet, so for more information about Glass Museum, visit their Bandcamp.
