Winifred Phillips, game composer of many, many awesome soundtracks including the recently released Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, has recently released an absolutely fantastic book called “A Composers Guide to Game Music”. We will be reviewing it in the future but as it’s a monster read I want to give it justice when I do. Alongside the book Winifred will be releasing a collection of video clips explaining some of the concepts behind the composition techniques she explains in the book. These visual prompts help visualise the concepts and are actually great standalone tutorials too.

Catch the first one about Vertical Layering below and be sure to grab your copy of the book. Even if you just have an interest in-game music or composition in general, it will open your eyes to new and interesting ways of painting your audio palette.
