Introducing… Quest Ensemble

Straddling classical and ethereal compositions

When I think of classical music trios I often think of snappy string arrangements but Quest Ensemble are piano, violin and cello. They also like to straddle different genres, mixing in folk, jazz, Indian classical and ethereal tones. Their first album was released back in 2014 and that record was partly improvised. This time around their second album ‘The Other Side’, releasing on the 5th of June, has a lot more structure to it.

What I really like about their new single ‘The Boatman’ is that is constantly tumbles through different feelings, rhythms, set ups and moods. One minute its a free-flowing trickle, then its an otherworldly chorus of voices, then its a romantic ember. The way Quest Ensemble effortlessly transition between them all makes me excited for the album. You can stream the single below which is out now.
