It is always great to find a new artist upon releasing their first single. Cannon Beach are a fantastic mash-up of 80’s Synth Rock and a bit of emo thrown in for good measure. They hail from Sheffield, well known for bands who make anthems from depressing themes. The duo is heavily inspired by movies, video games and TV shows, declaring their name comes from the classic film The Goonies (Hey you guys!). Expect plenty of pop culture references to days gone by in future singles then.
Cannon Beach’s debut single is ‘Upside Down’. It features both Beth and Daniel on vocals and has everything I love about huge 80’s synthwave pop. It’s also got plenty of guitars to boot. It is a really strong start and makes me quite excited for their future. Anyone who loves the label New Retro Wave Records on Bandcamp will be in love with this from the first power chord. Enjoy the music video below – the singles out now.
