I promise that this website is not going Covid mad but I wanted to make a post about one very specific musical instrument that has really helped keep me calm during the many days and nights where I am genuinely struggling for breath. That instrument is the Koshi Chime.
A Koshi Chime is a very precise bamboo chime that when rocked by wind or by hand, jingle jangles eight notes. It reminds me of a cross between a music box and a small Carillon. There are four varieties with different note tunings to them. These are placed into four elements: Terra (earth), Aqua (water), Aria (air) and Ignis (fire). When playing them you can move between them, play them together. I just find them so beautiful and reflective and when I needed to keep myself calm to open up my lungs – I listened to Koshi Chimes on YouTube.
I’ve popped some excellent examples that I’ve used to relax below. These chimes are now on my wishlist as my next instruments to buy!
I hope you enjoy these lovely instruments. When I get them I’ll be creating some Koshi Chime music for the Higher Plain Feelings project.
