James Heather is a pianist and composer who has amassed over 100 million streams on Spotify. Known for his ability to balance delicate empathy with powerful melodic moments, James is returning with original music for the first time in four years. ‘Modulations: EP2’ is an exploration of James Heather and his relationship to the piano. It feels especially reflective given his father recently passed away and the EP was born out of rumination of the loss. James also says the music does lead itself towards optimism in the long run which is a lovely way to broad stroke a cycle of grief.
The lead single from the upcoming EP is ‘Passing Soul’. It is a track that showcases that delicate balance of emotion and power as it feels like the melody could spit out a raised palm at you at any moment. Ultimately, it stays melodic and strangely alluring like a shadow of a spirit passing by. ‘Modulations: EP2’ is due for release on the 28th of May. ‘Passing Soul’ is out now. Enjoy the piece below.
*I previously ran an introducing feature for James Heather in 2017 but due to a technical glitch, the article didn’t display properly and so I consider this a reintroducing!
