I’ve been a fan of the YouTube channel Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows for years. Creator John Koenig creates new words for feelings and thoughts of the human condition that don’t quite exist and then makes exceptionally profound videos to introduce them. I always feel utterly miserable and touched at the same time.
Now the channel has an actual Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows for real! Out now digitally, the actual book will be available on hardback from 23rd December. This will be my Christmas present to myself. Whilst it isn’t music, this channel has had a profound effect on my lyric writing as I try to create new words to express feelings that don’t exist in the English language yet. I’ve even written a song called ‘Zenosyne’ from the channel.
I’ve placed some of my favourite videos from the channel below and you can pre-order or buy the book from most bookshops.
