The Blue Hour is a powerhouse project turning songwriters into composers

Five composers, a chamber orchestra and a poem about planet Earth.

The Blue Hour is a project that’s been commissioned through A Far Cry chamber orchestra. Joined by Shara Nova (My Brightest Diamond) they’ve asked for five songwriters to compose a song cycle to include text from Carolyn Forché’s poem “On Earth”. The five composers are Rachel Grimes, Angélica Negrón, Caroline Shaw, Sarah Kirkland Snider and Shara Nova. Bringing together so many talented musicians into one project has me excited.

The album, also called The Blue Hour, will release on the 14th of October and is available for pre-order. There are several visualisers of some of the tracks as part of a playlist and you can enjoy those below. It sounds like it is going to be a very cinematic story and I can hear Snider hooks specifically in No. 9 Early summer’s green plums.
