Following their excellent soundtrack to Life is Strange: Before the Storm in 2017, English folk rock trio Daughter took a break to explore solo projects and other things for a few years. Now, their brand of quietly devasting folk rock is back with new single ‘Be On Your Way’. The central theme on the song and the forthcoming album entitled ‘Stereo Mind Game’ is that of a long-distance relationship. Instead of mourning previous relationships and the general misery of love, this album is more pragmatic on what the future may bring – especially when the odds are stacked against you. Oh… and that thing that happened in 2020 until… now – that wouldn’t have helped either! Maybe that is what spurred on the more hopeful and optimistic view of whatever the future may bring.
If you’ve never heard of Daughter’s music before, you’ll be in for a treat. Elena Tonra’s lead vocal is hypnotically moody. She doesn’t often break out into huge emotions because she delivers her lines in direct poetic punches. Whilst she may be subdued, the tension and spacial awareness of Igor and Remi on guitar and drums paint an epically devastating backdrop. They are the Lamb of folk-infused rock.
