Lucie Antunes is a classically & contemporary-trained drummer and percussionist and she approaches sound in a different way than many other artists. Inspired by the pioneers of minimalism, she creates her music from non-musical objects where possible. For her new release though, she is taking her music to the eccentric pop dancefloor. In her new single ‘It’s Amazing’, she uses a doorbell as one of the main motifs whilst rhythmically chopping up vocal snippets into a robotic machine. Using her drum chops to create a stompy beat, she then adds in some vintage synths and basslines taken from the cyberpunk 1980s. Whilst it is a playful song in many ways, with a groove that gets into your bones, Lucie Antunes adds a mild creep to things too with a deft use of vocoder and chord progression.
‘It’s Amazing’ has a video edit (the actual track is much longer) available to view below which will get you fully into Lucie Antunes’ vibe. It’s the opening track from her forthcoming album ‘Carnaval’ which takes on the fear of death and the frantic search for freedom and meaning in life. Enjoy the track below, it is out now. For more information on all things Lucie Antunes, follow her on Bandcamp, where ‘Carnaval’ is also available for preorder.
