Introducing… EMP

EMP encapsulate a crazy hybrid of genres that make it incredibly difficult to describe. The trio of Alex Erhardt, Nathan Mays and Maxx Salazar pull from prog-rock, jazz, post-punk and electronic genres to create something wonderfully weird but satisfying to listen to.

With their new single ‘Tryst Issues’, I am reminded of what my mum would often call Ice Cream Girl soundtracks. During the intermission at the cinema years ago, an ice cream seller would go around “to groovy and dramatic jazz-rock” as my mum seems to recall. It’s a bit like a spaghetti western soundtrack but EMP bring a vibraphone to the party and attacks it for all its worth. As they zip up and down the octaves with glee, the guitars and drums pound away with melodic intent. The production on the drums is especially superb as they are constantly changing frequencies and flanging in your ears.

Enjoy the excellent single ‘Tryst Issues’ below, it’s out now. The track is taken from their album ‘Empulsive’ which came out last month. The album runs the gambit of rock and jazz fusion, so if you enjoy the single, be sure to explore the album too.
