Introducing… Coilguns

Featuring a live shot music video to match their raucous energy, Coilguns captured my attention with their dynamic new single. Entitled ‘We Missed The Parade’, the hardcore punk anthem switches gears by having the guitar melodies switch their tempos. For some parts of the song, the guitars are open-ended and slower. It’s as if the melody and chord progression are spread over two bars of music and not one. Then things switch gears elsewhere as the hardcore crunch hits at full velocity. Add in some pained vocals that veer between punk and screamo and a manic drum beat and you have a classic.

Coilguns hail from Switzerland and have been releasing albums since 2013. Their sound has evolved but the band say this rawer sound is a return to their roots. The track was originally recorded as a b-side but over time Coilguns felt like it was an anthem for themselves. Jonathan Nido, guitarist and founder of Coilguns says:

“Substantially the track talks about the fact that we’re getting older, still doing the same thing, not being sure why we still do it but nonethless we’ll keep on doing it, and we’ll keep doing it our own way, on our own.“
