In 1979, the BBC broadcast an hour documentary called The New Sound of Music. It explores the excitement and creativity of synths, sampling, tape cutting and all kinds of ideas. Some are experimental whilst others show you snippets of classic songs. You don’t seem to get this kind of documentary anymore and it is a shame as it explores music production in ways that might make sense to non-musical people. As someone who is diving into the world of Musique Concrete, I especially enjoyed the psychedelic visuals to show how tape and be reconfigured to make something new.
