Introducing… Sun Blood Stories

“The end of the world has already happened to many people. Seems foolish to think it won’t happen again.”

Sun Blood Stories

Portland-based psychedelic fuzz rockers Sun Blood Stories have been making music for 12 years. It is a band that’s repeatedly changed lineups and now has settled into a new quintet structure – complete with two slide guitar players. The band says they play like it’s their last time – and that’s because one day it will be. When asked about what has kept the band going for 12 years they say its because they’re fueled by paranoia, hope, wonder and rage.

That desperation and general pensive haze of fear and angst seeps through every bar of their new single. ‘Brand New Ghost Town’ is a fascinating mix of rustic percussion, swirling tape effects, hazy guitars and defeated vocals. It is messy and unapologetic – like it’s clawing its way out of the abyss. I think it’d make an excellent track for a Silent Hill segment. The guitars and tape effects swirl like the fog of daily war – it’s quite heady. The song feels like it is about to break into a fit of rage at any moment but the taut spine of the track never surrenders to it.

‘Brand New Ghost Town’ is the lead single from Sun Blood Stories’ forthcoming album ‘Shadow Loud’. The album comes out on the 4th of October. Enjoy the music video for the single below. For more information on all things Sun Blood Stories, visit their website.
