Introducing… Efterklang

It may be odd writing an introducing… post about a band releasing their seventh album but I’ve only just discovered Efterklang. The Copenhagen-based band released their latest album ‘Things We Have In Common’ last week and their new single ‘Sentiment’ struck a chord with me on first listen. Efterklang has gone for a less-is-more approach. The acoustic guitar riff is like a delicate metronomic finger pluck that sounds sincere. The drums are muffled slightly so they sound softer and inviting, like the piano and vocals. Everything production-wise provides a safe, warm harmonious soundscape where sonic space for each instrument allows each one to shine. Put simply; it is beautiful.

Efterklang has been on this voyage for their last couple of albums. According to the band they wanted to simplify their sound, remove harmonic tension and focus on lyrics that have universal themes. For their new album, this focuses on community, our relationship to nature and our yearning to belong somewhere. From the single ‘Sentiment’ alone, I think Efterklang has nailed it.

Enjoy the music video for ‘Senitment’ below, the single and album are out now. For more info on all things Efterklang, visit their website. It includes tickets for their Japanese and European tour dates across the next six months too.
