Three Montreal artists have collaborated to create an unusual, cinematic and symphonic album. Sarah Neufeld brings her violin as the focal point, while Rebecca Foon underscores with cello and Richard Reed Parry brings the double bass. The trio have worked with and around each other for years but formed their ensemble during the pandemic.
Whilst previous single ‘Maria’ was a haunting chamber-folk piece showcasing a romantic coldness and yearning, their new single ‘Circular’ is ghostly. The trio play their instruments in wisps and half-hues. It sounds as if the music itself has been smudged by a rubber and left to linger. It is empty and disquieting and very experimental and ambient-focused. As we’ve now had very different singles, I expect to hear a gambit of chamber music remapped for a modern cinematic universe when the album arrives next month.
The album will be called ‘First Sounds’ and it comes out on the 1st November. The nine track album will include the single ‘Circular’ and you can watch the hypnotic music video below. For more information on the trio visit their websites:
