Vienna Teng merges music and activism with her Two Truths Micro-Workshop

Piano-wielding songstress Vienna Teng has spent the last few years pivoting her music towards activism and taking action. She also runs various workshops and grassroots action groups. Vienna’s focus is to help people take an active approach to change both in life and the world around us. This has born out some great singles, culminating in the ‘We’ve Got You’ EP – three songs which encompass this work. Unless you are part of the workshops though, it’s been quite tricky to know exactly what the tangible activism element is.

Taking a small snapshot of a workshop, Vienna Teng ran a “Two Truths” micro-workshop, exploring when you have two things pulling you in different directions. Vienna includes snippets of the three music videos to bring in an artistic element and the workshop lets participants chew over different options they can take to feel less paralysed in the moment. If you can’t choose, can you order them or stack them? It is a simple but effective concept. I’m at a personal crossroads in my life and taking time to methodically work through these concepts was quite helpful. It stopped me from adding a project management twist to my personal life and instead, try some different approaches. I hope Vienna considers doing some more online micro-workshops in the future. On a more music-based note, these three new songs are classic piano pop anthems that remind everyone just what a tour-de-force Vienna Teng is when it comes to emotional and catchy tunes.
