Introducing… Duncan Lloyd

Maximo Park songwriter and guitarist Duncan Lloyd also has a solo career. The Northern Englishman has announced his forthcoming album ‘Unwound’. The lead single, ‘Laugh So Loud’, is a track about doubt. It has an explosive machine gun chorus percussion that goes so hard it sounds like a secondary layer of guitar noise. With its chunky power chords, it is undeniably Brit Pop, whilst Duncan’s voice glides along as the most soothing part of the audio assault. About the track, Duncan says:

“There is a lot of pretending things are fine and hiding from the reality of the world outside or not discussing the real problems publically for fear of reprisal, so itʼs a reaction to the sedentary state of mind.”

I’m reminded of the mid to late 90s Brit Pop era, with a hint of shoegazing emo bubbling underneath. There is a confidence and abandon to the track, an urgency and directness that clicked upon first listen. It will be track 7 of 12 on ‘Unwound’, which is due for release on 11th July.
