Beloved composer Hitoshi Sakimoto has started celebrating his 40th year in music a little early by releasing a huge back catalogue of material onto streaming services. Best known for his works on games like Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Unicorn Overlord, Sakimoto has now amassed over 400 credits to his name. He also founded Basiscape as a way to support game developers and creators, which includes Basiscape Records to help publish game soundtracks. Speaking of this momentous achievement, Hitoshi said:
“It’s hard to believe it has been 40 years since I began my journey as a composer. I’m truly grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had to create music, and for the continued support of everyone who has listened to and shared my work. Exploring the role of music in games has been a deeply fulfilling path, and every project has taught me something new. As I look ahead, I hope to keep discovering new sounds, new stories, and new ways to connect through music.”

Congratulations, Hitoshi Sakimoto! He has always been one of my favourite military style orchestral composers. His style is very regal, yet symphonic. Let’s hope he is composing for many years to come.
