Once Upon A KATAMARI’s theme song is the 90 second explosion of happiness you need today

It has been 14 years since the last brand new Katamari game. It’s been a painful wait, as it is one of my all-time favourite video game series. Part of the reason comes from the utterly barmy, catchy, and explosively inventive soundtracks that accompany them. Well, with the announcement of Once Upon A KATAMARI coming out in October, we’ve been treated to a fully animated music video. It is a great time to be a Katamari fan.

Kocchi no Kento’s ‘Eeja Eeja naika’ is the single. It is a bouncy J-Pop number with a riff that gets stuck in your head immediately, and plenty of enthusiasm to boot. The video sees our wonderful prince rolling his katamari chasing around Kocchi no Kento in the game itself, trying to roll him up. After a bruising day of real life, this is exactly the adrenaline shot of pure happiness I needed to enter the weekend with.

Once Upon A KATAMARI is out on 24th October for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Every other mainline entry has had a soundtrack release, so I’m expecting an announcement for that soon. In the meantime, Bandai Namco has created a YouTube playlist of songs from the game, which I expect will be populated as part of the promo work for the game up to release.
