You can now filter by music genre on Higher Plain Music

Over the weekend, I’ve been building a new genres page. This is because I’ve used over 550 different tags for all the music I cover, and I’d like readers to explore the site not just by what’s new, but also by type of music. Most of the 550 tags are available on the genres page, and they’ve been placed into categories for easier scanning. You can select the genres page from the main menu on the website.

As this isn’t something I was initially planning to build when I was writing articles years ago, some of my tagging is a bit messy. The worst offenders are ‘game music’ and ‘video game music’, which mean the same thing, and ‘electronic’ and ‘electronica’ have a similar problem. I’ll be tidying this up over the coming fortnight, but I’ve included both tags for now whilst I recategorise articles. The last thing left to do on the genres page after that is to break down the World section by continent. In the longer term, I will try to go back through the years of articles and ensure all reviews and introducing posts are tagged correctly. What is available right now works for most articles, though, so get stuck in!

I hope this helps you discover more music and go back through Higher Plain Music’s years of articles. If you have any feedback, send me a message.
