Iglooghost returns making Crane Musik for new construction-themed EP

A new era for electronic artist Iglooghost emerges, and this time we’re going into the world of construction for the forthcoming EP ‘Bronze Claw Iso’. After water and dream-themed albums that merged unusual children’s choirs, tuned percussion, and ancient vinyls to make artistic and experimental electronic music, this time around, we’re more percussive and angst-ridden. There’s always lore to an Iglooghost release, and this is set to the backdrop of working as a crane operator on a construction site, and siphoning electricity from the construction machinery to channel their angst into the music.

What this translates into is lead single ‘Xcavator.03’. fuelled by zappy kick drums, filtered spoken samples, and machine bass lines. Over the top chopped up vocal samples, and dial up modem weirdness collide with bauble synths. There often isn’t an immediate vibe to an Iglooghost song, and that’s the same here. There are riffs and hooks dotted around, but you have to work to find them in the aggressive chaos. It’s a potent mix, powered further by a fantastic music video, showing Iglooghost spinning around inside an excavator’s claw. The trippy visuals complement the off-kilter music perfectly.

The single ‘Xcavator.03’ is out now, with the EP ‘Bronze Claw Iso’ releasing on 5th September. You can pre-order the EP on Bandcamp. Alongside the music, there is a retro-cool new website to accompany the release that shimmers in late 90s Geocities aesthetics. The website is called Neurowaste and tells the lore of different machines and how they are used in this imaginary world that Iglooghost creates his music inside. I always appreciate it when an artist thinks about a multi-layered approach to their art, and Iglooghost does this for every release. I wish others would do more of this, too.
