Introducing… TV Moms

Heavy rock trio TV Moms’ latest single reminds me of the peak MTV era of power chord rock. Bringing big energy to the music, with a jaded, ffs energy to the vocals, places TV Moms’ music perfectly in the grungy DIY scene as a future fan favourite for many. The sound feels like comfortable, well-worn slippers for fans of Nirvana, Hole, Bully, and Pavement. Their previous music has always had a slightly DIY sound, but it’s been more rooted in traditional rock and roll. With a new era, the roll is kicked aside for heavier, punchier tones.

‘Stolen Mouth’ is the lead single from TV Mom’s forthcoming album ‘Celebrity Dust’. The band says the track is about all the throwaway failed attempts to make art. It’s an interesting observation because the lead chord riff is a dead ringer for Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’, but as if it were made in Nirvana’s ‘Bleach’ era. I assume this is intentional, and a comment on dead skin turning to dust, but maybe I’m reading far too much into it! Either way, this ramshackle tone mixed with tight melodies scratches an itch that I have for earworm, grungy DIY rock and roll. Whilst the band are New York-based, this feels distinctly Seattle’d.

Whilst the album hasn’t yet got a release date, TV Moms are touring Japan and America from September to November this year. Tour dates and previous releases are available on TV Moms’ Bandcamp. Hopefully, the album will be on the merch stands soon!
