Duo Ko Shin Moon randomly appeared on as an advert on my social media and I was immediately drawn to their music. They combine traditional and modern instruments from different Middle Eastern and Eastern cultures and then take them on an electronic, psychedelic dance. Some tracks are more synth-heavy. Other tracks are more like folk dances. Regardless of what they get up to, Ko Shin Moon delivers a bombastic explosion of flavours.
Their most recent release is ‘PerperiÅŸan’, a new EP that leans heavily into Persian instrumentation and folk culture. The latest single, ‘Arkad,’ is a dance synth-emulation of the saz. It reminds me heavily of Palestine and Syrian synth-fusion duo Zenobia. Ko Shin Moon has the same fluid rhythmic wave effect in ‘Arkad’ that feels like you are circling the plughole before being dragged down into musical heaven.
Both ‘Arkad’ and ‘PerperiÅŸan’ are out now. For more information about Ko Shin Moon, including their European tour dates, follow them on Instagram.
