Hania Rani’s fluid transformation between pianist, composer, and singer-songwriter takes another form with her newly announced album ‘Sentimental Value’. It covers her original music from ‘Sentimental Value’ and adds additional tracks that were not part of the film score to create a standalone sonic album.
This album is a mix of modern classical compositions with field recording ambient elements. The field recordings were directly captured from the building in which the film takes place. The film follows three characters and their relationships with one another, but the omnipresent house itself is a character, too. Armed with these recordings, the script, and her own imagination, Hania Rani composed the music without seeing an edit of the movie.
The title track is the lead single, performed with a string quintet and a woodwind section to create a sombre, velvety, rise and descent of beautiful and painful musical memories. It is sumptuous and one of those tracks you could loop on repeat and get lost in the unfurling of it all.
The album ‘Sentimental Value’ is out on 30th January, whilst the single is out now. You can pre-order the album now. For more information on what Hania Rani gets up to next, visit Hania Rani’s website.
