Swiss quartet Lone Assembly are gearing up for their debut album, ‘Knots & Chains’, to be released on 27th February. Mixing dark wave and synth pop with a distinct gothic dramatic flair, the band have been growing from strength to strength since their debut EP in 2024. Lone Assembly’s early music was a musical tribute to a lost loved one, and the band has used music as a healing art. The music is born from dark places, but offers the idea of seeing darkness in new shafts of light.
Single ‘In the Open’ embodies everything Lone Assembly excels at. Powerful 80’s rock drums from Romain Segu, big bass (Jim Bodeman) and guitar (Glenn Le Meur) hooks that have pop sensibilities hiding in the shadows, and the deep, evocative voice of Raphaël Bressier up front. Whilst Bressier’s voice commands each song into submission with his operatic devilishness, Jim, Glenn, and Romain are equally as powerful with their driving musicianship to create a powerful track to mosh and scream to. I’ve had this song on repeat since I discovered it earlier today, as it gives me the same visceral energy as the new wave greats of the 80s.
Speaking of the album, Bressler says:
“The album takes shape like a cycle, moving from suffocation to openness, from closed space to greater, albeit fragile, breathing space.”
The glitteringly gothic ‘In The Open’ is out now. For more information about Lone Assembly, including the release of their debut album ‘Knots & Chains’, follow Lone Assembly on Instagram.
