Bangsana is an electro-jazz fusion duo made up of French-Finnish composer Emil Sana and French composer and teacher Sorie Bang. Sana takes on synths, whilst Bangura plays the piano. Julien Ouvrard joins them on drums for a live performance of their debut single ‘Daimôns’. I’m not sure if Julien will be a permanent fixture at Bangsana as he isn’t mentioned in their Instagram bio, which is how I discovered them. It’s taken years to get the algorithm to help me discover new music, but now it’s sending me gems.
Fans of modern jazz fusion bands like Glass Museum, GoGo Penguin, and, to a lesser extent, Mammal Hands, will find a kindred duo here. On their debut single ‘Daimôns’, we get bombastic synths, rumbling piano, muted piano string motifs, and some cinematic percussive moments. It is a real tour de force, making me wonder if the duo should become a trio in the near future. Sadly, I cannot find any other information about Bangsana online except for a teaser for their next single, ‘Init’. ‘Init’ is less drum-heavy and more a collage of glockenspiel and duelling pianos. It reminds me of Final Fantasy XIII’s soundtracks. That track comes out on the 10th April, whereas ‘Daimôns’ is out now.
