Founder and lead songwriter of The Pineapple Thief, Bruce Soord, is back with his latest solo album. Entitled ‘Ghosts In The Park’, Bruce describes it as his most personal and unguarded album yet. Written whilst touring over a two-year period, Bruce found himself navigating the death of his father alongside his mother’s Alzheimer’s progression. The album confronts his grief, his memories, and the quiet determination to soldier on.
‘Pillars’ is the lead single and is a mid-tempo rock track. Soord’s sympathetic and emotive voice is paired with a careful and restrained performance. The guitars leave room for lingering and reflection, as the lyrics question decisions being made and the lasting damage done. Upon my first listen, I found it quite introspective for a lead single, and the press comment about the track backs that up. Bruce says:
“Excessive, damaging introspection, I guess is the theme of the song. I remember the day in my life when I was liberated from my god-fearing introspection. Only then could I see the damage it had done to me and was still doing to the people around me. The song is about that: the damage I have witnessed. It’s framed around religion and penance, but it’s not anti-religion, it’s about balance.”
‘Ghosts in the Park’ is due for release on the 15th May. The single ‘Pillars’ is out now. For more information about Bruce Soord’s various musical projects and his European tour dates, visit Bruce Soord’s website. Come and discover one of the best-kept secrets on the UK prog rock scene.
