Down the rabbit hole of Instagram, I found The Piano Matt. Previously known for doing piano tutorials of pop songs, he has more recently started to underscore famous TV movies with piano backing. Matt Curney follows the general melody, poise, and dramatic tension of different TV scenes, often making them sound like a piano backing to a silent movie. Some work better than others, but they are generally a delight to listen to.
My favourite is his underscoring duet of ‘Pooja, what is this behaviour’. As the anger and tension escalate, Matt’s piano becomes more theatrical and bombastic. It’s the “you’re dying for it?! Get Off… My Back!” followed by the clumsy piano smashes as the brush gets broken up that really hit comedy gold. For more silliness, follow The Piano Matt on Instagram.
