Introducing… Jahrund

My favourite dark pop discovery of 2026 to date...

German electronic duo Jahrund describe their music as a warm, pulsating energy generated by a love for life mysteries. Jahrund are inspired by the planet and our solar system, often weaving astrology and psychology into their lyrics and musical themes. The pair released their debut album ‘Fiction World’ in 2024, and followed it up with ‘Inverted Paradise’ in January. Their brand of dark pop with alternative grit and edges immediately called to me when I found them on Instagram. Their electronics are often twisty, curious, or numbing. The rhythms are driving and propulsive, channelling alt-rock feelings. The vocals feel like they could have fronted a late ’90s alt-pop megalith. It sounds superb.

I absolutely love the music video that accompanies the single ‘The Loony Bin’. It harkens back to the days of proper visual storytelling, following a wounded woman trying to escape a captor and her own mind in a forest of nightmares and potential illusions. It’s cinematic and evocative, although if you don’t like the sight of blood, you might want to skip it! The track itself moves from dissonant, off-key synths and ethereal, chopped-up vocals into panoramic metallic synth slices, sizzling basslines, and a siren-rising vocal that is soft in the mix. It’s the perfect slice of dark pop.

Jahrund’s latest album ‘Inverted Paradise’ is out now on Bandcamp. The album is about becoming fixated on a state of being and trying to find the truth of something amongst the artificial noise of modern-day society. I’ll be picking the album up for review later this month. For more information about future tour dates and releases, visit Jahrund’s website.
