Embodying the same tenderpunk energy as Illuminati Hotties, Ellie Heath brings bubblepunk rock to Canada with her new single ‘That Sunshine’s Mine’. The track is a playful ditty that hides its powerful message in plain sight. As life grinds you down, you need to protect your joy. This has become all the more evident as Ellie also released her debut album, ‘Pushing Forty’, to coincide with the new single. I love how the track balances a hyperactive rhythm, mixes in pop production to keep your ears on fire, and gets your blood bumping with uplifting crowd vocals. It’s a rock anthem for the knackered middle-aged worker. At 42, I’m feeling it (and in a nod to Ellie’s previous single… I’m also ‘Too Old (For This Shit)’).
Speaking about the track, Ellie says:
“That Sunshine’s Mine” makes me feel like a kid in the best possible way. It feels fun, empowered, mischievous, and free! We jokes that writing a sunshine song was basically a guaranteed hit. From there, it evolved into something more personal about protecting your joy and not letting others dim your light.”
Hitting the perfect crossroads of pop, rock, and a bit of warm sass, Ellie Heath merges catchy guitar hooks with a propulsive beat and some rowdy chants. The sharp writing and album theme translate well to the music video. Ellie spends time trying to avoid the Grim Reaper before they become besties and skip into the distance with some lemonade. Outside of music, Heath also creates sketch comedy and solo theatre performances. We often talk about multi-instrumental, but Ellie is multidisciplinary!
‘That Sunshine’s Mine’ is out now. For more information about Ellie Heath’s creative projects, including the debut album ‘Pushing Forty’, visit Ellie Heath’s website.
