Meklit hails from Ethiopia but currently resides in San Francisco and the melting pop of her origins and her jazz fusion roots creates a really unique and interesting sound – one that spreads quite wide on her 2014 debut album album We Are Alive. Interestingly, promotion for it has re-kicked back in only now with a music video for the track “Plume”. It’s muted hushed jazz overtones with the warmth of African instrumentation is a lovely one to sink into and I’ll be picking up her album for review next month.
