Douglas Dare returns with ‘stripped back’ new album

He is back with a searing tunng

Douglas Dare has been a revelation for me musically. It feels a bit of a crime to pidgeon him as a step further into the darker alternative world than Patrick Wolf but the leather trousers fit. Douglas is switching things up for his new album ‘Milkteeth’. Joining forces with producer Mike Lindsay, this album is all about stripping things back. For reference, Mike Lindsay is one of the founders of alt-folk legends Tunng and half of LUMP along with Laura Marling. If that doesn’t set the tone, the new single will.

‘Silly Games’ takes a lot of the hazy dreamwork of zithers and pianos that Tunng are famed for and applies it to the punchy but carefully poised world that Douglas Dare inhabits. It sounds utterly disarming whilst being suitably depressing – exactly what I look for in Dare’s music. The single is out now for album pre-orders and the album is due for release on the 20th of February. Enjoy ‘Silly Games’ below.
