Taking your Joy Divison, The Cure and adding a layer of malevolent psychedelia to it, Mayflower Madame are Norway’s latest export into the post-rock/shoegaze genre. ‘Sacred Core’ is the third single from their second album ‘Prepared for a Nightmare’ and it sets up the vibe perfectly. The vocals are sometimes atonal and a bit like Marilyn Manson has taken a sedative. They cut through the hazy guitars who enjoy spending time evoking b-movie riffs and off-kilter sounds.
Mayflower Madame attributes their shoegaze/post-rock coldness to their initial set up. The four-piece band had to practice their music in desolate industrial buildings and at one point had to practice in a space shared by a car wash! They found the whole experience shaped their sound as they attuned to the environment and the aftermath vibes they got from it. ‘Prepared for a Nightmare’ was released on the 12th of July and is available on all major platforms as well as Bandcamp to purchase.
