Mixing up modern classical composition with thoughtful piano and washed out string arrangements, Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres has captivated me with her new single ‘Dance’. The piano reminds me a little of Hania Rani with its depth and fluidity and of Henrik Lindstrand and the like with dreamy production. The piano is heavily processed and distorted in this single but no less beautiful. 2020 has brought several musicians who have made some creatively inspiring piano production decisions and Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres certainly shines here. Its the juxtaposition of intimate piano hammers and ringing bell like notes that just works for me.
‘Dance’ is the second single from Alexandra’s forthcoming album ‘2 Years Stranger’. The album is due for release on the 20th of November and looks set to round off a stunning year of modern contemporary classical music releases. Sadly, the album was born out of two years of her father being induced into a coma, leaving Alexandra alone surrounded by all his life long possessions but not him. The album is a way to process that emotional rollercoaster and you can feel the ‘so near yet so far’ energy pouring out of the single. I’m very excited to see what she has in store for us across the album. Enjoy ‘Dance’ below, the single is out now.
