Charlotte Spiral is actually a duo and neither are called Charlotte. Its the name for collaborators Amy Spencer and Avi Barath, who released their debut EP ‘Ideal Life’ last year. Naming confusion aside, they specialise in dark alt-pop which is naturally right up Higher Plain Music’s street! The piano and the lyrics are front and centre to what Charlotte Spiral is all about and the two have a shared piano-alt music affinity.
After getting support from BBC6 Music, the duo returned back to the studio and remotely worked with Dean Carey, who has worked with Sia and Bat for Lashes to name but a few. The result is their new EP ‘New Light’ which is due for release on the 9th of April. The title track is the lead single and carefully waltzes around a piano melody to home truth lyrics. The message behind the song is to live more presently and not be caught up in an imaginary better life. When we’re all trapped inside at the moment, its a good thought to have.
