ambient field recordings Introducing... synth

Introducing… KMRU

Kenya's new ambient star.

It is exceptionally rare to find ambient and African music married together but that is what Kenyan KMRU brings to us today. Using field recordings from East Africa and mixing them with slow, evolving synth drones, KMRU’s music evokes night time Africa for me. Everything is quiet and subtle but very much alive if you take the time to listen. Fans of Heinali, C. Diab and Stars of the Lid will bask happily in these full bodied tones.

Previously KMRU self released his music and so fans or new listeners alike may not have had the chance to experience all of his works. Now teaming up with ambient and synth loves Injazero Records, his new album ‘Logue’ is a selection of tracks he self-released between 2017-2019. The lead single is ‘OT’ and features a warm synth stream that slowly simmers towards the end, mixed with field recordings of percussion, tribe chant and nature.

Enjoy the track ‘OT’ below – the single is out now. ‘Logue’ is currently scheduled for release on the 14th May. Let’s hope KMRU gets to find a whole new audience with this wider platform.
