Having already spearheaded alt-rock band Oshwa, Alicia Walter has announced a solo career. The result is an ambitious and crazy art-pop explosion. Alicia’s debut single ‘Prelude’ reminds me of one part Tune-Yards, one part Alex Lilly and a splash of bombastic synth-rock. She is bright, colourful and has a very unique and powerful voice. It cuts through the mix and with ‘Prelude’ she uses it to really command the track from the outset. The playful choruses are bouncy and joyous.
Prelude will be featured on Alicia Walter’s debut solo album ‘I Am Alicia’ which is currently scheduled for release on 17th September. She wrote the album sequentially and Alicia says this track is all about what makes her tick. It certainly makes me tick and I’ll be all over the album when it comes out. Enjoy the single ‘Prelude’ below, which is out now. The album is available to pre-order on Bandcamp.
