Named as BBC’s ‘one to watch’ in 2021, Ruth Lyon is backing that up with a gentle, fragile look back on the innocence of childhood. The singer-songwriter based in Newcastle Upon Tyne is releasing her new track ‘Paper Aeroplane’ to showcase her piano ballad skills. Using piano and her beautiful upper register to brilliant effect, Ruth clouds her music with electronic atmospherics so everything feels a bit cinematic and dramatic. Yes, it’s a ballad, but that still means you have a metal tom drum clanging for the chorus! It’s a lovely mix of folk and choir piano pop.
Ruth Lyon released ‘Paper Aeroplane’ yesterday and it’s the lead track from her forthcoming EP ‘Nothing’s Perfect’ which is out on October 22nd. The EP was co-produced with Rhiannon Mair (Laura Marling, LUNA) and Cameron Craig (Amy Winehouse, Katie Melua). That’ll give you a decent yardstick for the styles of singer-songwriting Ruth Lyon will likely gravitate to.
