Introducing… Mall Girl

Light and crunchy indie math music.

Norwegian art-rockers Mall Girl instantly captivated me with their new single ‘Bubble Cool Drink’. It has a skittish beat to it, crunchy guitars, breezy vocals and it switches up its sound constantly across its run time. I often see the tag math rock used for music but Mall Girl uses the tag math pop. I think they’re far more rock than pop but they have no issues using catchy chords and riffs to burst onto your speakers. As the quartet live in different cities, recording has been a little tricky during the pandemic. This lead to Mall Girl remote composing a lot of the music for their forthcoming album ‘Superstar’.

‘Bubble Cool Drink’ is the lead single for the album, which is scheduled for a summer 2022 release. The band have been releasing singles since 2018 so the album has been gestating for a while. I’m quite keen to hear how wild their imaginations have run. You can enjoy the skittish jangle rock track below. It’s pretty damn infectious.
