Introducing… Ben Marc

A melting pot of influences surging forward to create new jazz

Multi-instrumentalist Ben Marc manages to fuse jazz into a more eclectic electronic setting. On his new EP ‘Breathe Suite’, Ben fuses together skipping beats, jazzy strings and piano moments with synths and ethereal vocal snippets. It is jazz-based but it rarely feels anything like it. If anything, Ben Marc belongs and aligns closer to the new jazz movement with the likes of Portico Quartet, GoGo Penguin and the like. It’s taking the usual trapping and placing them into interesting, vibrant arrangements. Ben himself grew up split between the Caribbean and the UK before moving to London and studying the double bass. It opened up his eyes to new possibilities with jazz instruments and here are some of the fruits of his labour.

‘Way We Are’ is the first track from Ben Marc’s forthcoming album. He wrote it whilst questioning exactly what type of musician and artist he wanted to be. With lots of influences into the melting pot, I’m excited to see where this all leads. Enjoy the music video to ‘Way We Were’ below.
