Slovakia has a new LGBTQ+ icon in bloom and her name is Karin Ann. The singer-songwriter makes vibrant alt-pop music that flips between heavy synth and anthemic pop-rock. Her music touches on gender equality and music from her forthcoming EP will also nod towards calls to make Slovakia and other more conservative countries more liberal about how we love and who we want to be. Recently, during a TV performance in Poland, she brought the rainbow flag on stage with her, which is something of a bold statement in the region.
‘We’re friends, right?’ is her latest single which came out yesterday. It mixes a bit of rock with some vintage synth-driven pop and has a very catchy chorus. It straddles the balance between guilty pleasure and a little bit alternative excellently. You can enjoy the music video for ‘We’re friends, right?’ below. The EP is due out in 2022.
